type='text'>THE END

Our 2009 season ended this weekend with a in the first round of Conference Tournament against number 2 ranked College of the Ozarks. They simply outplayed us and wanted the game more than we did. Once again we were given all the tools to play a good smart game but when it came down to it, Ozarks just simply out played us. At least we lost to the team that went on to win it all. The very next day they swept a clean three games right out from under Bellevue University.

We had a lot of ups and downs this season. Although the season did not turn out how we all woud have liked we can still take a lot of experiences away from this year. There is a lot that we can biuld on and having such a young team would help. Before the next season we will work twice as hard to fix all the key factors that held us back this year.

We appreciate all the support the fans have given us throughout the season. Thank you for always being there to cheer us on and keep our hopes up. It is because of family, friends, and loyal fans that we were able to keep our eyes on the future and just keep plugging away at the season.

Thanks again for everything!!!

Your 2009 FLAMES!!!

FINAL HOURS

This weekend we finished up our conference and regular season games against Haskell Indian Nation and Central Christian. Friday night we took on Haskell in what started out to be a a clean sweep. We took the first two games from them, but as usual we got to comfortable and Haskell snuck up behind us and stole the 3rd and 4th games. Luckly once the 5th game rolled around we had all decided that this was enough and we just need to finish it. With our high energy we swept the 5th game and called it a night. Senior Cara apparently had something to prove she ended the night with a season high of 26 kills.

Saturday after some much needed rest after the Haskell game we had a double header against the Central Christian Tigers. Before the first game we took a few moments to honor our parents, fans and all other supporters. Your flames took care of business the first match and swept all three games from under the Tigers. After a brief intermission, our Senior Cara stood alone on the court as a few words from Junior Krysta we said about her. Krysta gave a heartfelt and funny speech that touched the hearts of many and even made a few laugh. It was obvious that the whole gym knew and felt the Cara would be missed. In the second match of the day against the Tigers, we still swept them in three games but it wasn’t nearly as pretty as the first match. Two out of the three games we had to come from behind.

Now that our season is coming down to an end there are mixed emotions on the team, some sadness some joy and some excitement. Tournament play starts this Friday at 6 pm against College of the Ozarks at Bellevue University. Now it comes down to one game, from here on out every game determines the fate of your team. It’s all or nothing, kill or be killed, WIN OR GO HOME!!!!

I would like to give an extra special thanks to all of our fans that have supported us through all the good times and especially through the bad ones. You are all great and we couldn’t have done as much as we did this season without your support.

THANKS GUYS!!!

Love your 2009 FLAMES!!!!

Bellevue

Hey CSM Fans

This past Wednesday the Flames took on conference opponent Bellevue University - currently ranked number 1 and undefeated in the MCAC conference. We had been working on scouting the Bruins and practicing hard for the match - but like many other games this season, the Flames did not come out ready to play. Bellevue outplayed us - holding our team to just a .049 hitting average and sweeping the match 25-14, 25-15, 25-11. It was a difficult loss to swallow, especially since we had all the tools in front of us to play a good match against Bellevue, but it's tough to win when only some of our players have the motivation and discipline. Hopefully we can come together as a team to finish out our regular season on a winning note when we take on Haskell and Central Christian this weekend.

We hope to see you fans at our matches this weekend! We face Haskell Indian Nations at home on Friday at 7pm...and we have a double header at home vs. Central Christian on Saturday at 2pm and 4pm. Saturday is also the day where we will honor our lone senior Cara, as well as have a special thank you for our parents. We hope you all can make it!!!

What's up Flames Fans? We hope you had a great Halloween weekend!!

While most were out Trick or Treating....the Flames were down in Bartlesville, Oklahoma taking on Oklahoma Wesleyan. We were coming off a tough loss to conference foe College of the Ozarks, and we definitely wanted to take out our frustration. The Flames did just that by sweeping Oklahoma Wesleyan in 3 games - 25-14, 25-22, 25-23 to make our record 6-4 in the conference. It was a great win for us, as the previous time we played Oklahoma Wesleyan at home they took a game away from us. We executed our game plan, and although it became close at the end, the Flames pulled out the W. A 3 win sweep was definitely needed for us to boost our confidence and prepare for our next conference match against the undefeated in conference team, Bellevue University. We've been preparing for over a month for this upcoming match, so be sure to come out to Bellevue on Wendesday, November 4th at 7pm to support your Flames!

We look forward to seeing you, and thanks for the continued support!!
GO FLAMES!!

One Step Forward... Two Steps Back

Hey Fans,

Last night we took on College of the Ozarks hoping for a revenge game but fell quite short of the goals that we had set in place. Now that it is getting down to the wire we cannot afford to be playing the way we have been the last few games. After the game some players admitted to feeling like they weren't mentally prepared they just felt like they were on the court not doing anything. Which is exactly how we were playing. Right from the beginning our serve receive wasn't there. That may have been the most aces that we have given up all season in a single game. Once our serve received picked up thats when our hitters went sour. You would think it wouldn't be that hard to find the court, but nothing seemed to be going our way.

Today we take on Oklahoma Wesleyan and hopefully we are all more mentally prepared. They are going to come out looking for revenge since we beat them last time. We are all playing the game we LOVE we just have to start proving it to others and really show them what we are worth.

Thanks FANS!!!!

Your Flames

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://flamesvolleyball.blogspot.com/2009/10/one-step-forward-two-steps-back.html' title='One Step Forward... They ended up sweeping us in three. We had a very nice highlight though, our senior Cara shook Briar Cliff up int the first set, when she nailed a girl in the face with a ball going about 45 mph. It was insane. Everyone cheered for her and got excited off of her fabulous kill. Loosing sucks, but it makes you stronger. We'll learn from our mistakes and are ready to take on College of the Ozarks and Oklahoma Weselyan this weekend. These both are revenge matches, and were excitied to bring the heat and bring home a "W". We had quite the battle with a conference contender Peru State Bobcats. The games battled back and fourth. Peru took the first game but not without a fight we came back and stole the second and fourth game. With our fans at the edge of their seats we took Peru to game five. At first we had all the momentum and just needed one point to finish them off. Peru wouldnt give up though they battled back to take the lead from us. We all dug deep and pushed through the game and ended up on top with the final score being 19-17.

It feels good to be on a winning streak and now that we all know what that feels like. They have had difficulties in the past with a record of 4-21 but that is not how they came out to play against us. They were hungry to win while we just sat back and played a little to relaxed. It was a big wake up call when they took the first game from us in a long battle ending in 30-32.

We finally woke up a bit and took they second and third sets but just barely. Once we got a good comfortable lead we let up a little too much and always seem to let our opponents back into the game. As a result of our lack of pushing Mount Marty came back and stole the fourth game from under us. Luckly we came out with our long lost internal flame and took charge of game five from the start. The final score of 15-5 reflects how we should have been playing the whole match.

Its a shame we take so long to figure these things out.

Thanks for all you support fans!!!

YOUR FLAMES

College of the Ozarks and Oklahoma Wesleyan

What up Flames?!

This last friday the Flames took on College of the Ozarks. This was a team that we needed to beat in order to come out in the top two of our conference. Unfortunatly, COFO came out on top beating us is a 0-3 sweep.

Saturday was a different story. Flames took on Oklahoma Wesleyan and easily sent them back to the bus. OKWU is a very up and down team, just as we are, so we knew we could not take them lightly. They earned a few points and even took the third set from us, but in the end we calmed down and knew we had the tool to dominate them. That is exaclty what we did winning 3-1. Evening out the weekend to a W-L.

Next, the Flames are on the road to South Dakota to take on Mount Mary. Check in later this week to see who takes this win. Hopefully, you will being seeing alot more "W" on our record. :)

Untill next time,

FLAMES!!!

Flames vs Dordt

Hey all you Flaming Fans!!!!

Last night the Flames took on Dordt. The Flames were coming off a disappointing loss to Bellevue and were ready to gain a conference win. However, we came out flat in the beginning and never really gained the momentum. Although all 4 sets were close battles, the Flames came out on top in the final set. Although we knew we didn't play our best, we were pleased to finally get in the double digits in the "W" category. We're looking to gain even more knowledge from our match, and continue to push to improve.

This week the Flames host 3 strong teams, including two conference opponents. On Tuesday, October 12 we'll take on Dordt college at home @ 7pm. Friday, October 16, College of the Ozarks will match up agains the Flames at 7pm, also at home. And Satuday, at 1pm, the Flames will be playing Oklahoma Weslyan. We're looking for 3 more "W's" so come out and support us!!!

Go Flames!!

Bellevue

Hello Flames Fans!
We hope you're staying warm. Just wanted to update you on our match against Bellevue this past Tuesday, October 6th. The Flames were celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness month and all decked out in PINK! Look for us to be wearing more pink throughout the rest of the month of October. We were EXTREMELY pumped to be playing Bellevue our arch rival in our home gym. We got pumped before the game and went out ready to play! Bellevue thought they could just walk all over us, but they were wrong! The Flames ended up taking a very emotional first game from the Bruins, winning 25-23. But we knew the Bruins wouldn't let us go away with a win that easy, and they came out strong in the 2nd and 3rd sets. The Flames weren't ready to give up just yet. Although we played a very strong 4th set, the Bruins ended up winning 25-15 to win the match.
After the game we talked about all the positive things that came out of the match. We now know what to expect the next time we meet up with Bellevue, and how after an emotionally rough weekend we came out strong and ready to battle. We came together in a tough situation and showed everyone that we aren't ready to give up yet! Bellevue better be ready next time they meet up with the Flames!

We want to give a very special thank you to our crowd on Tuesday night - YOU GUYS ROCKED! We love and appreciate all your support. Keep it up :) Hope to see you again at our next home match on October 13, vs. Dordt at 7pm! Wish us luck as we venture down to Lawrence, KS to take on Haskell on Friday, October 9th!

PEACE!!!

Hey Flame Fans!

On Saturday we played York for the 2nd time. We won in 3 straight matches which, we haven't been able to do since September 11th. We were all excited knowing that if we play as a team we can do it. We came from behind in the 3rd match to win it very close with a 25-23 score. We have started to come together as a team and play our level of volleyball not the other team levels. We have more confidence and trust in our teammates. We did way better then we have in any other match with coverage. We stayed in the Green light for all 3 sets going to the yellow light a few times, but managed to stay in the green which lead us to a Win. We play this Tuesday at home against Bellevue at 7:00 p.m

Please come support your flames !

GO FLAMES!!! :)
P.S.

THANKS TO ALL THE FANS WHO CAME TO SUPPORT US ON SATURDAY!!!

Hola Flames fans!

As you all probably know already the Briar Cliff home game didn't go so well for the Flames. Playing at York was a good experience. They had an extremely loud and rowdy crowd. It was a big step for us to block out that noise and simply just play ball. It was a fun atmosphere to play in and we hope we get more chances to play in that type of noise. Buena Vista was the complete opposite. They had a much quieter gym so we had to find it in ourselves to create the noise. It was a close four games but we ended up on top. Now that we have the taste of victory fresh in our minds we hope to build off that even more. The season is not over yet and there is still plenty of room for improvement.

As the great Napoleon once said, “Victory belongs to the most persevering!”

Come support us tomorrow night as we take on Briar Cliff at home!!!

Thanks for everything!!!!

2009 FLAMES

*~Hola Flame Fanatics~*

The last week didn’t go as we had originally planned. We had to admit defeat to opponents that didn’t deserve it. As a team we are finding out the hard way that people won’t just hand us the game, we have to earn it for ourselves. After a late night and a long and rigorous practice our internal fire is burning and we are all itching for a WIN!!! Only York and Buena Vista stand in our way this weekend and we are not going down without a fight. Although they have home court advantage we plan to go in with our torches raised and leave scorch marks when we are done. Our fire is not yet out, we have refueled it and are hoping to prove this weekend that we are burning as bright as ever.

Come check us out at York at 7:00pm Friday night!!

Thanks for all the support,

Your CSM Flames

Work in Progress

Hey Flame Chasers,

This past weekend we ventured out to Hastings, NE for another tournament weekend. Like most of our games so far this weekend acted as a good learning experience for coaches and players alike. We are beginning to come together more as a team and are starting to demonstrate the raw talents that we all have been given. Although we only came out 2-2 this weekend we showed promising efforts to our fans. We can only hope with a little more time in the gym and a great deal of heart and confidence we will turn our season around and start playing like the stars we know we are!!!!

Thanks for all of your support. We played a local omaha team, brining a good crowd. Grace University gave us our run for our money, that we werent prepared for. Our first set. We came out flat and not ready to play our game. Loosing the first set was not good and we knew we had to pick it up from there. Doing so we dominated the next three sets not letting up our game. We learned as a team to not slope to lower levels and keep playing our fast past games. It was nice to finish the game not letting down and pushing all the way to 25.

Thanks for all the Support!
Go Flames!

CSM CLASSIC

Hey Fans,
This weekend the Flames hosted the CSM Holiday Inn Classic. We first defeated Concordia in a grueling 5 sets. It was a great comeback and overall win for the team. We had our second chance to beat them and we took advantage and came out on top.
Second we met Morningside. We lost to them in 3 very close sets. We managed to stick with them, but just couldn't quite pull out the win.
Next, we played Hastings College. We managed to take a set from them, but again fell short, losing in 4 intense sets. We stuck with them as well, and definitely put up a good fight, but we just couldn't quite keep that edge and come out with the win.
Finally, we went face to face with Northwestern. We unfortunately lost to them in 3 sets, but the same as with Morningside and Hastings, we did give them a good match and competed very hard.
Overall, the weekend went well. We may not have come out with all wins, but we grew a lot as a team and learned a lot about each other as well as ourselves as individuals. We played 4 very good teams and we competed with each and every one of them. If we can keep up this level of play, we will be very successful in our games to come.

Thanks for all the support!!!!!!!! Keep it up. We really appreciate it!

OCU Tournament Day 2

Hey Fans!

Day #2 at the OCU tournament went pretty well for the flames. After taking awhile to wake up and play, Wiley took a game from the flames in the morning. After this game we regrouped, refocused and checked out of our hotel. After a quick lunch the Flames were headed back to the gym to take on Huston! And that we did! In a quick three game set, the Flames dominated Huston taking their record to 2-3!

Overall, it was a great weekend in Oklahoma. We learned some more things about eachother and new things that we can improve on.

Tomorrow we take on the Bulldogs of Concordia University at 7:00 in Seward, NE.

Come support your Flames!

Oklahoma City Classic

Hey all you Flaming Fans!

We had a good day of competition in Oklahoma. We played OCU for our first match of the day. We lost in three sets, but we fought hard in all of them. The flames are still learning to play together as a team and we see improvement in every match we play. We have a great bunch of girls who love to play volleyball so it should not take us long to find our groove and learn how to play with eachother like the great team we all know we are going to be!

In our second match we played Lyons. We beat them in a grueling four sets. We won the first two sets. And even thought we fought hard, we couldn't pull off the third set of the game. The fourth set we came out with some of that flaming energy we all love and put Lyons away.

It was a hard day, but we all learned a lot about playing with eachother. We are looking forward to playing the next two games tomorrow in Oklahoma, and hopefully adding two more wins onto our record!!

We'll keep you posted! The whole team very much appreciates all of your support and enthusiasm!!

Being the first match of the season the Flames were as excited as ever. Working very hard during three a days for two weeks we were all more than ready to play a game rather than practice.

Between the adrenaline rushes and all the nerves the Flames won the first set of the match 25-21, we did a lot of great things, and some amazing kills and awesome serves. Becoming a little to comfortable with ourselves the next sets went: 25-27, 16-25, 25-19 ending up going into a fifth set. Even though everyone worked their hardest and wanted the win really bad, Dana still pulled threw to win the game, defeating the Flames 11-15.

After a long morning practice this morning, the Flames know what they need to do to improve for their next match. A lot more hard work, trust, and drive is going to help us do great this weekend where we adventure to Oklahoma City, OK for the Oklahoma City Classic. This tournament will be a perfect time to show others how hard we've worked so far and what we have learned from our first match!!!

Thank you again to those of you who made the trip!! type='text'>NEW BEGINNINGS!!!

WELCOME TO A NEW YEAR CSM FANS!!! The 2009 volleyball team is underway with a new and exciting season!!!

This year we have 6 new incoming players: Jr. transfer from Wayne State Erin Dostal, Jr. transfer from Concordia College Kristen Czapla, and freshmen Ashley Kulwicki, Cortney Czapla, Jessie Clark, and Jess Zimmerman - to join our returning players: Sr. Cara Fleischman, Jrs. Sam Sandiland and Krysta Peers, and Sophs. Stacie Cornwell, Dani Cote, Kirsten Placzek, and Kristen Weigum.

We also have two new coaches on staff: assistant coach Tati and student assistant coachs Kristen and Emilie.

Pre-season started August 10th and the girls were ready to play! We've practiced new things, showed incoming players old routines, and much much more. We've had fun with coming together during swim workouts and even the dreaded mile at 7am ;)

On Monday, August 17th the team headed out to the middle of a cornfield in Omaha to participate in a ropes course put on by Boys Town. The girls and the coaches learned many team oriented lessons - ones that we will take into every practice and game. The girls had fun, got scraped up, fought off the ants, and even learned new ways to play elbow tag - but most of all LAUGHED!!! It was a great team bonding experience. Look for pictures soon!!

Check back soon! Keep the Flames in your thoughts as we finish out our pre-season...and we look forward to seeing you at our first game! Come make the trip out to Dana College to support your flames as they take on the Vikings on their home court...August 25th at 7pm!! Hope to see you there :)

GO FLAMES!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

DEAR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND FANS!!!!

THE VOLLEYBALL FAMILY OF CSM WANTS TO WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT

LOVE,

THE CSM VB FAMILY

Haskell Indian Nation match-up11/7

Hello Flames Fans!

I think we all know we didn't play our overall best game tonight, but when our backs were against the wall we really showed what we are made of! It shows when we play together as a team we can get hot and go on a roll! Game 1 was really close, but we didn't let it slip away and finally closed the game 31-29.

I guess sometimes we still think we play to 30, just kidding I guess I am the only one who thinks that, just kidding Rod does too, just kidding we all know we play to 25!!

Game 2 was another close game, but when we needed to close the deal we did! Game 3 really showed what this team can do when our back is against the wall, when we were down 14-20 we really stepped up out game and started to play really agressive and kinda got a mean streak in us and that proved to be what we needed to battle back and win the match!!

GO FLAMES!!

Bellevue match-up 11/5

Hello Flames Fans!

I just wanted to say how proud I was of our team for battling the #4 team in the nation in Bellevue.
I defintely think it was one of our better games of the year, whether the score showed that or not. The Flames knew they had to perform at their best to take out the scrappy Eagle team.

The first game started out a little slow, back and forth points being scored, but in the end our passion and intensity helped us pull out a close 25-22 win. The second game we knew we had to come out on top of our game this time, because the Eagles weren't gonna go down without a fight. We proved that we had the right to win the game by putting our offensive and defensive talents together and pulling out an impressive 25-14 victory. But in order to put on our costumes and go, we had to finish off one last game. The Flames started off strong in the 3rd game, but Oklahoma Weselyan wouldn't go down without a fight. In the end we pulled it off and ended up winning the game 25-22. Congrats Flames!

We will see you next week where we take on Bellevue one last time on their home court, and then our final two matches at home vs. Haskell and Park on November 7th, and 8th.

REMEMBER!!! November 7th is Parent's night and we encourage all the parents to be there so we can honor all the work you've put in it for us players! Also, November 8th is Senior night, so come out and support Emilie as she plays her last home game of her career!

Thanks for coming out and continuing to support our team you Flames fans! We came out strong with lots of awesome kills and aggressive serves that took the Chargers out of their offense. Unfortunatly, the Chargers took the match in three. After the match we reminded ourselves that we only have a few games left, and we all agreed that we want to end the season strong and competitive. We know that it's going to take lots of teammwork, desire and heart to pull out the last few wins of the season.

The Flames have a rematch with Oklahoma Wesleyan on Halloween night. We started off each set of the match a little rocky, but we really pulled it together once we got a few points under our belts. The second set was very close; we had hard hits, great passing and some awesome blocks, with us almost causing a 4th game to happen. We tried to carry that energy to the third set, but struggled with passing and putting the balls away. The flames came back at one point in the set and gave the Bobcats a run for their money, but we couldn't quite pull it off. It was by far an exciting game, even though we didn't walk out with a W. The crowd was great in cheering for us and was a good momentum booster.

Thanks to all the fans that come to watch, it made it that much more fun to play for you :] We're taking on Briar Cliff on Tuesday the 28th in Sioux City, IA and hoping for a win!

GO FLAMES!

Flamers vs. the Tigers of Central Christain

To all you flamers fans:

Going game-less throughout the week, the Flames were excited to get back on the hardwood once again. This time across the net from us was the Tigers of Central Christain out of McPherson, Kansas. We were ready to tally another "W" on the ol' count of wins and losses! With the season winding down, anything but wins is really out of the picture.

Anyway with that being said, the Flames started off to a somewhat rocky start, with struggles of getting our passes to the setter. Also there was some unforced errors when it came time for the Flames to attack the ball. Although our talk and determination got us out of that bind as we came together and started making plays and began to get things flowing. We went onto win the first set and we took the second set without trouble. In the second set great serving and some big swings kept the momentum on our side, but of course we couldn't have done that without our scrappy defense and great serve receivers. The third set the Flames started out somewhat like they were taking a snooze. The Tigers got a jump on us and we had to play catch up for the beginning of the set. Although we didn't give up. We kept together and began to wake up to win the third and final set. WOO! Next up, Peru State.

For all of those who came and watched us, thanks! For all of you who didn't, you missed out! But really, thanks to all of you who support us! We really appreciate it!

Friday's Struggle against Ozarks

On Friday, before our win against Park, we had a match up between us and the College of the Ozarks Bobcats. It was a rough start for us as we lost the first two sets, but we rallied back in the 3rd set to win our only game of the night. Although we didn't have our best game against C of O, we rallied back in the end to go out fighting. It was a tough loss, but we were ready to take on Park the next day and get back a "W" we needed for the Flames.

Thanks again, for everyone who supports us in both wins and losses. We knew we had to come out strong after a tough loss Friday night against College of the Ozarks. Even though the team was NOT so pumped up to be leaving at 7am, we arrived ready to compete with some FIRE!

The Flames started off the first game going back and forth with the Pirates, but managing to shut down Park's big hitters with our block when we needed to. We won the first game 25-20, and came out in the 2nd game with the same intensity. The Flames once again found the holes in Park's defense, and went on great serving run's to keep the Pirates out of system most of the game, winning the second game 25-19. We knew that Park wasn't going to give us this match that easy, so we were motivated to finish off the match and get on the road (we were also ready to EAT!). Even though the Pirates mananged to fight off a 23-15 lead to make it a little bit closer, the Flames finished the match with a third game win at 25-20.

Great job today girls! Way to hustle and keep the intensity! Let's keep this momentum all week and use it in our matches next week!

Also, thanks to the fans who traveled down to KC to see us play! You guys are the best!
You stay classy Flames fans ;) Stay tuned for updates on next weeks matches!

Dordt Match

Flames Fans!!

Tuesday Oct. 14 CSM volleyball played Dordt at 7pm. Flames all knew they needed to bring their "Game A." Dordt was not going to just hand the match over to them. Another W would of been awesome! Even though it didn't fall threw flames accomplished big things during the match. Several goals were reached.

Flames had a weak start in the first game. The flames then regrouped and got it together! Figuring things out and coming together is all it took. The flames did not stop fighting the entire match. We all knew we had to come back home with a win and that is exactly what we did! Finishing in a little over an hour, we took Haskell in three.

In the first match, we should have finished it alot sooner than we did letting it go all the way to 27-25. But in the second and third sets we got our agressivness back and took a clean sweep. We played well by keeping our talk alive and coming together after every point which were both included in our goals. We finished the third set with a bang blocking their biggest hitter, allowing us to shower and get the heck outta there.

This Tuesday the Flames leave at 1:30 to take on Dordt College in Sioux City, Iowa @ 7pm. This was the very much anticipated match of the season and the adrenaline was pumping. We knew this was going to be a tough match, but had been preparing for it all season. The whole team decided before the match that we had nothing to lose, that we were going to go out there and play our game and most importantly HAVE FUN.

The stands were filled and we even were grateful to have the Fort Calhoun grade school team there to support us. Unfortunately the Bruins took all three games. But the flames didn't go down without a fight. They gave it their all and celebrated each block and kill that came their way. After the game the team sat down and evaluated what we could take and learn from the match to help us for the rest of the season.

This Friday the flames plan to travel to Kansas, once again. This time to match up against Haskell Indian Nations in Lawrence. They hope to stick to the plan of winning in three and getting home at a decent time.

Thank you, fans for your continuous support!!! The flames came out with a VERY impressive start to game #1. We got on a roll early in the game and pumped up our flames fans in the stands. The flames were able to pull out an awesome win in the first game. The next three games, though, were taken by Briar Cliff. The flames started falling back into some old habits and waited too long to come out of their "funk". After the game the team re-evaluated some individual things that we can work on to help the team out.

This weekend the flames have their alumni game during CSM celebration weekend! This will be a great chance to work out some kinks before the big Bellevue game on Tuesday!

Keep supporting your volleyball girls! First of all, just want to send a great THANK YOU for the fans that came out to the game tonight. It's over an hour drive and it was not the best of weather, but you bet the Flame Fans were there & cheering louder than EVER!

Tonight's match up was against your CSM Flames and Peru State. Both ranked in the top 4 of the MCAC conference. Getting to an impressive start, the Flames lost the first game 22-25. The CSM girls knew they had more to offer, though. That attitude carried into the next game and a score of 28-26 FLAMES! Aggressive serving, going on mini-runs and shutting down their big hitters were keys in that game. Games 3 and 4 seemed to slip away from CSM, unfortunately.

We continue to learn more and more what it means to play as a team and how critical communication is, specifically when we, as a team, aren't playing at the best we know we should be playing. We play this weekend in Kansas, little over five hours away from home against Central Christian College. The girls are ready to earn the respect they deserve in this conference & are looking forward to a win this weekend. Playing together & the intensity that every player has to offer is what will make that win happen Saturday afternoon.

Keep posted, Flame Fans!

C of O-No...

Last weekend, the CSM volleyball team headed down to good 'ol Branson, Missouri to play their first conference match of the '08 season against College of the Ozarks. On Thursday, after a wonderful what seemed like a ten hour drive down there, the girls were off to bed to catch some Z's before their early morning practice the next day.

Friday morning's practice was a quick and to the point. We were ready to give C of O some "heat". But first.... we had our team lunch at the one and only Bob Evans. If any Flame fans are down in the Kansas City or Branson area, I would HIGHLY suggest eating there. Okay, Mr. Bob Evans is not going to get free advertising here, so moving on...

FRIDAY NIGHT....game night! Talk about a roller coaster game! The Flames definitely gave the Bobcats some competition from the start. With aggressive serving and tough blocks, Ozarks wasn't going to get us without a fight. Ties are not allowed in the game of Volleyball and the first game's score made it to 26-24 with the Flames coming from behind. Unfortunately, losing the next three games.

All in all, learning different strengths & weaknesses that we are able to continue or work on is something we can take from that match. It was a great prep game for what other conference challengers will bring. Also, going down to MO brought an amazing experience of eating Bob Evans! :)

GO FLAMES!

CSM IN OKLAHOMA

Hey Fellow Flamers,

This past weekend we took a long trip down to Oklahoma Wesleyan where we beat the Eagles in their own nest!! Our team really stepped it up to take them in three even when the games got tight at the end. We are starting to blend better as a team and are becoming more open to each others views and pointers during our games. All season we have been taking baby steps to achieve our goals and this game was another step in the right direction. The Flames are begining to play like we have nothing to lose and to just play with it all out there, and to hold nothing back. We have another conference game coming up Tuesday night against Peru on their home court. We can only hope that all the hard work and progress we have been making will bring home another victory.

Northwestern Matchup

The Tuesday game against Northwestern last week we knew would be a tough match. CSM went 3-1 with Concordia, finishing them off in the 4th set 26-24 to win the match! The weekend was a success for the Flames as well. CSM started out with a grueling 5-game match against St. Xavier University, winning the first 2, losing the second 2, and coming back to win that always important 5th game. After putting a "W" on the season record, CSM heads into yet another matchup with Concordia University. Like Tuesday, the Flames went 3-1 to win the match and gain some confidence going into Saturday's matches. Saturday morning's match turned out to be a little rocky, with a disappointing 0-3 loss to Oklahoma Baptist. The team said their was a lack of intensity and fun on the court, which is something they needed to change before the next match. For the last match of the weekend, the Flames stepped up to the challenge and beat Dakota Wesleyan 3-1. After losing the first game, CSM stepped it up and rallied back to win 3 games in a row to put another win on the charts for Flames volleyball. CSM wants to thank all of those that traveled out to Hastings for their support and hopes to see them soon!

This weekend, CSM travels to College of the Ozarks in Missouri for a 7PM match on Friday, and then to Oklahoma Wesleyan in Oklahoma for a 12PM match on Saturday.

GO FLAMES!!!!!!

CSM Classic

It was a cold, rainy weekend as teams pulled into Omaha to compete in the CSM Classic Tournament. The cold couldn't come close to taming the Flames Friday night, though. It was our second match of the evening, having already had a tough loss against Hastings College, St. Mary's was ready to earn their pride back against Doane College. Up 2 games to none, the third game was a reality check. The Tigers weren't going to go down without a fight. Resulting to an intense game 5, Doane and CSM battled back and forth leading to a hard-hitting loss at 13-15, Doane winning. We didn't leave the gym with our heads down, though, we knew we had two more chances for a "W" the next day.

Saturday morning, we were able to redeem ourselves, beating Midland Luthern 3-1. The team was beginning to take difficult situations that are presented in the game of Volleyball and learn from them. Fans filled in for the final match of the day, Morningside vs. CSM. Morningside, well stacked with an older team, presented another challenge for the Flames. It was a scrappy match, with Morningside's big hitters and our wall of blockers. The Mustangs pulled it off in three. After having a much-needed team meeting later that night, we feel we are coming together as one team. Learning that it is not just an "over-night" thing to be a successful Volleyball team. Remaining positive and relaxed is key going into the next game, many have mentioned.

It is the fourth straight cold, rainy day, this Monday morning as the Flames finish up their morning practice. Knowing that tomorrow night we have a whole new game to focus on- Concordia. The game is at College of St. Mary's at 7:30p. We hope to see all our wonderful fans in the crowd! The rain couldn't pour fast enough to put out these Flames!

Get 'em girls!

On a side note, we would like to thank all of the volunteers, parents & students that helped out this past weekend with the CSM Classic! It would not have been possible to host a great tournament without your help!!

Back from Cali!

Well, we're back from California and ready for a fresh start! We played Fresno Pacific, Carroll, Hope International, and Azusa Pacific during our weekend at the Concordia Irvine tournament. Although it was a rough 4 losses, we actually made a lot of progress as a team. Our last game, which was against #5 ranked Azusa Pacific, the team was able to relax and just play volleyball. We actually had some fun and played our best game of the weekend. It was a great bonding experience for the girls and we're ready to build our season together. Overall, we did well as a team and are ready for the challenges ahead of us!

Dana College....CHECK!

Good Morning, Flame Fans!

The College of Saint Mary Volleyball team had their first match last night against the Dana College Vikings. From Monday, the 11th to Tuesday of the following week the College of Saint Mary Volleyball team pressed through physically and mentally challenging practices. Morning practices would start at 7 AM sharp going for 2- 2 1/2 hours. We would eat lunch as a team, then proceed to afternoon individual practices or a demanding pool workout. After eating dinner together, an evening practice was held for another 2- 2 1/2 hours. At the end of the day our curphew was midnight, but I can guarantee all of us were asleep by 10 each night preparing to do it all over again the next day.

Way to go, girls! Bring on the season!
